HVAC Design Studio

HVAC design that's quick, easy and accurate

Ripping through quotes.

Drop in the plans and ClawSoft does the rest: a room by room load calculation, the right equipment, a duct layout and a quote ready to send. Built for contractors, distributors, manufacturers and homeowners.

Everything you need to design an HVAC system

Room by room load calculation

Heating and cooling loads using the Manual J method, with design temperatures by ZIP code. Insulation, windows and which way they face, cathedral ceilings, duct location and air leakage are all accounted for, and every assumption is listed.

Plan and email reader

Upload floor plans as a PDF or photos, or paste the customer's email or your call notes. ClawSoft reads the rooms, sizes, ceiling heights and window schedules and fills in the design for you to check.

Equipment sizing

Sizes high velocity small duct systems, conventional ducted systems and ductless mini splits, with heat pumps, electric heat, hot water and chilled water options, so you can compare them for the same house.

Duct designer

Draw supply and return runs right on the plans at scale. Run lengths, outlet counts and spacing are checked as you go, and the parts list updates from your layout.

Quotes from a full catalog

Turn the design into a quote in one click, with parts pulled from a full HVAC and plumbing catalog and a dimensioned air handler drawing.

Design reports

A clean printed report with the load summary, room by room loads, airflow and the equipment list, ready for the homeowner, the inspector or your files.

Who it's for

Contractors and installers

Size the job, lay out the ducts and hand the customer a professional quote before you leave the driveway.

Distributors and supply houses

Turn a customer's plans into a load, an equipment list and a quote your counter team can stand behind.

Manufacturers and reps

Help dealers pick the right equipment fast with consistent, documented sizing.

Engineers and designers

Get a quick first pass on loads and layouts before the full engineered design.

Homeowners

Find out what size system your house really needs and what it will take to install it.

Our design team

Need a full design for a permit? Request one from our design team right from your project.

How it works

  1. Add the job. Paste the email or call notes, or drop in the plans. ClawSoft fills in the design request.
  2. Check the rooms and run the load. Review the rooms it read, then get the heating and cooling load and the recommended system.
  3. Lay out and quote. Draw the runs if you want, then build the quote and print it with the design report.

HVAC design questions

What is ClawSoft?

ClawSoft Design Suite is an online HVAC design studio. It runs a room by room heating and cooling load calculation, reads floor plans, sizes the equipment, lays out the ductwork and builds a quote from a full HVAC and plumbing catalog.

Who is ClawSoft for?

Contractors and installers, distributors and supply houses, manufacturers and reps, engineers and designers, and homeowners planning a new system or a replacement.

Is the ClawSoft load calculation a Manual J?

It follows the Manual J method in simplified form, so you get an accurate room by room load in minutes instead of hours. Every default it uses is listed on the report. When a job needs a full engineered design for a permit, our design team can do it.

What kinds of HVAC systems can I design?

High velocity small duct systems such as Unico, conventional ducted systems, ductless mini splits, heat pumps with electric backup, hot water coils and chilled water. ClawSoft compares the options for the same house.

Can ClawSoft read my floor plans?

Yes. Upload the plans as a PDF or photos and ClawSoft reads room names and sizes, ceiling heights, cathedral ceilings, window schedules and which way the glass faces. You review everything before it is saved.

How many outlets does a high velocity system need?

As a rule of thumb, a high velocity system moves about 250 CFM per ton and each 2 inch outlet carries roughly 30 to 35 CFM, so plan on about 7 to 8 outlets per ton. ClawSoft works out outlets room by room from each room's load.

Is ClawSoft free?

Yes, creating an account is free. New accounts are reviewed and approved, usually within one business day.
